OXFORD, Miss.Junior DH Matt Brewer's RBI double in the 10th inning lifted Southern Illinois (5-2) to an 8-7 win over No. 15 (Sports Weekly/ESPN) Ole Miss (4-2) Friday afternoon, in front of 3,421 at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.

The win was the Salukis' fifth straight as they improved to 5-2. The Rebels dropped to 4-2 on the year with the loss.

Trailing 7-6, Ole Miss tied the game in the bottom of the ninth. Chris Coghlan drew a lead-off walk, and a batter later, Brian Pettway singled to put runners on first and third. Jon-Jon Hancock then lifted a fly ball to left field that was deep enough to allow Coghlan to tag up and score.

In the 10th, Kevin Koski led-off with a single, and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by P.J. Finigan. Brewer then hit the first pitch from Will Kline into the left center gap to score Koski for the game-winning run.

Finigan went 3-for-5 with two RBI and Brewer was 2-for-6 with two RBI as the Salukis out-hit the Rebels 13-11 on the afternoon.

Hancock went 2-for-4 with two RBI, including hitting a lead-off home run in the sixth inning to pull the Rebels to within 4-3. The home run was his second of the season.

Senior right-hander Andrew Weber (1-0) earned the win, allowing one run on two hits and one walk, while striking out two in 2 1/3 innings of relief.

Kline (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing two runs, one earned, on two hits and two walks in 2 2/3 innings of relief.

The Rebels were also plagued by five errors in the field.

The two teams will continue the three-game series Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m., and conclude the three-game set with a Sunday afternoon contest at 1:30 p.m. Junior left-hander Stephen Head (0-0, 3.00 ERA) is scheduled to start for Ole Miss, while Southern Illinois is expected to counter with senior right-hander P.J.
