CHICAGO, Ill. - The Southern Illinois men's tennis team posted a sweep at Chicago State, 7-0 Sunday after dropping a pair of matches against Northern Illinois and Marquette Saturday. The win brings the Salukis' overall record to 3-3 on the young season.

Rodrigo Lama led the Salukis over the weekend with a 3-0 record in the number two singles position and posted a 2-1 doubles record.

"Lama had a great weekend," Saluki head coach Missy Jeffrey said. "He went 3-0 without even dropping a set. He is competing really well right now and playing smart."

Newcomer Sergio Sanchez and Tomas Gonzales also contributed on the weekend, each with a 2-1 singles record. Sanchez at the number three position and Gonzales at the number four position.

The Salukis, still experimenting the doubles, captured three wins against Chicago State and one victory in number three doubles against Northern Illinois. Jeffrey is looking to find the right teams to step up and become a threat in that area.

"I think once we settle on doubles partners and those doubles duos start to gel," Jeffrey said. "We will turn our doubles into more of a strength."

The Salukis return to action when they travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn. to take on Middle Tennessee State Feb. 19.
